Since 1985 Westfield has been granted the privilege to call Chad Seymour its head professional golfer. However, this month is predicted to be unlike any other. One round during the month of August is expected to be Chad’s millionth.
“Not me personally,” Chad explained, “but the millionth round of golf that has been played during my time as head pro at Westfield.”
Westfield Country Club has been keeping statistics of the rounds played since Chad started over 25 years ago. During Chad’s first year in 1985 there were 32,561 rounds of golf played throughout the year. These statistics include rounds played from both members and visiting guests of the course.
“Private country clubs average 17,000 rounds of golf per year. Westfield is different in that we operate two 18-hole courses and average more than double the number of rounds that other country clubs have,” said Chad.
Last year Westfield had slightly fewer than 35,000 rounds played between the two courses, with approximately 55% of these rounds played on the South Course. Chad is predicting his millionth round to fall somewhere in the third week of August, but the warm weather is making it hard to predict the exact date. The extreme heat this summer has caused water reservoirs on the course to diminish and conservation efforts to keep the course alive have been underway.
“We average 290 rounds per day at Westfield, but the heat this year has caused fewer golfers to play this summer than in the past. We’re doing everything we can to keep the course as healthy as possible, but it’s been difficult.”
This year there are 156 golfers in the CIA League, 112 in the Men’s League, and 40 in the Women’s League. Chad doesn’t have a prediction for who he expects his millionth golfer to be, but he is grateful for the opportunity to have been a part of Westfield for the past 27 years.
“I don’t know how many other club pros have stayed at one course long enough to reach a million rounds, but it is a great feeling.”
